| Ray & Helen Elliot were the first Americans to have a passion and concern for the Mayan Ixil Indians in Northwest Guatemala. Without their vision, hard work and persistence this wonderful work of the translation of the Nebaj Ixil New Testament would have never come to completion. They were there through tumultuous times in Guatemala. Helen Elliot was the one who started Light and Life School in 1995 in Salquil which will be one of the main vehicles for the continuance of the spread of the gospel in this area. We thank the Lord for them and their family's faithfulness to the Ixil people.
Below will give an general timeline of the beginning and completion of Ixil Nebaj New Testament.

| After the Elliots retired, Dwight Jewitt, Wycliffe translator came to Nebaj to help the team finish the New Testament. Unfortunately Dwight suddenly died in 2006. At that point I , Sharon, was given the main responsibility of assisting the Ixil Translation team proof read and reread the translation. I had been assisting the team since my arrival in Nebaj as SIL Literacy Worker and was glad for the faithful translation Ixil Team who were very capable of finishing the work.
